To those on the outside, the Powells are a happy family, but then a devastating accident destroys their fragile facade. When seven- year-old Henry is blamed for the tragedy, he tries desperately to make his parents happy again. As Henry grows up, he is full of potential—a talented sportsman with an academic mind and a thirst for adventure—but soon he questions if the guilt his parents have burdened him with has left him unable to escape his anguished family or their painful past. With a delicate touch and masterful attention to detail, New York Times bestselling author Elizabeth Flock invites us to meet a man both ordinary and extraordinary, and to experience a life that has yet to be lived.

Flora Goldwasser is private school perfection - all wrapped up in a vintage Grace Kelly dress. But when she leaves elite Manhattan for an academy of unwashed hippies and ironic hipsters in the Hudson Valley, Flora discovers that when it comes to popularity and approval there is no commutative property. Her love of Maison Kayser macaroons, perfect French conjugation, Jackie Kennedy sunglasses, and Audrey Hepburn movies make her the ultimate outsider in a land of kale, quinoa, and tattered tunics. Told through a collage of letters, emails and clippings, Everything Must Go is a thoughtful, nuanced story about identity, sex, friendship, and the bridges we cross (and burn) as we grow into ourselves. A budding Marxist, a Jenna Lyons doppelganger, and a jacked dude named Agnes come together with a vending machine full of vintage accessories as Flora throws off the mantle of expectations, assumptions, and perfection -- the trappings of her old life. Everything Must Go is an offbeat, modern novel with emotionally rich and compelling characters.

Fiction. LGBT Studies. In a future- queer world of magically changing locations, perversely transformed historical figures and oodles of spatter-violence, an intersexual teen mother describes her road trip with a cast of surreal travel buddies. The goal of her final destination: unleashing the Apocalypse. Riding in a banana-yellow convertible with our hero/ine is the strangely mature Baby, able to chat while still in the womb; as well as two Catholic Missionaries with a violent streak, a Charlie Chaplin who communicates only with cue cards, and Candy Bar, a winsome club kid who ends up fixing the face of Valentino's corpse at his funeral. Follow our hero/ine through a dreamlike jungle of orgies and terrorist explosions, described in language as word-rich and surreal as a Ronald Firbank novel. You'll howl with laughter the whole time and have nightmares about it long after you come to the breathlessly ridiculous final page.

Everything Must Go: A Collection of Short Stories seeks to explore the complexity of life through a number of characters and the situations and relationships that define them. Work, death, family, religion, illness, addiction, and Mother Nature all play their part in shaping the lives and choices of the characters within this collection. In "The Experiment," a college student counts cards with her sick father in order to pay her tuition, while a football coach questions his woth in the story, "Making the Call." "Drought" follows the effects of a statewide water shortage through the imaginative lens of one old woman, and through the limited lens of another we see a hunting dog go on a vicious rampage in "The Duke of Cordillera." From a rodeo clown trying to be a father to a pawn shop owner's questions about God, each character in this collection must find his or her own way or die trying. Much like Antonio Morales, the struggling boxer, in "The Sparring Partner," these characters often find themselves beaten and penned in the corner by what life throws at them. Their best chance for survial is to come out swinging.

Every Thing Must Go argues that the only kind of metaphysics that can contribute to objective knowledge is one based specifically on contemporary science as it really is, and not on philosophers' a priori intuitions, common sense, or simplifications of science. In addition to showing how recent metaphysics has drifted away from connection with all other serious scholarly inquiry as a result of not heeding this restriction, they demonstrate how to build a metaphysicscompatible with current fundamental physics ('ontic structural realism'), which, when combined with their metaphysics of the special sciences ('rainforest realism'), can be used to unify physics with the other sciences without reducing these sciences to physics itself. Taking science metaphysically seriously,Ladyman and Ross argue, means that metaphysicians must abandon the picture of the world as composed of self-subsistent individual objects, and the paradigm of causation as the collision of such objects.Everything Must Go also assesses the role of information theory and complex systems theory in attempts to explain the relationship between the special sciences and physics, treading a middle road between the grand synthesis of thermodynamics and information, and eliminativism about information. The consequences of the author's metaphysical theory for central issues in the philosophy of science are explored, including the implications for the realism vs. empiricism debate, the role ofcausation in scientific explanations, the nature of causation and laws, the status of abstract and virtual objects, and the objective reality of natural kinds.

'Only two big facts are known for certain: you are on a large spinning rock hurtling through space at about 67,000 mph, and one day your body is going to die. Will a new pair of shoes really help?' Worth's 12th Rule of Shopping George Worth is a grumpy lifestyle columnist who works in a woman's world. He hates fashion, mobile phones, computers and Young People. At night he goes home to a borrowed Labrador and feelings of guilt about his dead wife. Justin Smith is a Young Person. A bright newcomer, he's always on his mobile to his girlfriend, surfing the Net and keeping abreast of the latest trends. Then comes the day when Justin's girlfriend throws him out and he finds himself having to share a flat with George. As the women around them watch and wonder both men start to work out what really matters among the obsessions and distractions of modern life. Laugh-out-loud funny, moving and revealing, This Age We're Living In is a novel that confronts the big questions: Can shopping solve everything? Why are boxers better than Y-fronts? Are lifestyle writers secretly in the same mess as everyone else? And if life is a journey, who the hell changed all the signposts?
