As a gut-wrenching desire to be a mom built within her, God began to place adoption on Jennifer’s heart. In 2010, Jennifer and her husband, John, felt God leading them to build their family through international adoption. Eighteen months after they began their journey to Ethiopia, God took them on a detour that only He could have orchestrated. After accepting a job at the local homeless shelter, Jennifer began to see how God truly wanted her to live her life—serving the least of these. As God transformed her heart and showed her how to truly love the poor, the widow, and the orphan, He began to weave together a story that would eventually lead to her son. In Bringing Home the Missing Linck, Jennifer shares how the pain and heartache of infertility became the building blocks God used to strengthen her faith and make her heart more like His, as He answered her prayers for a child.

"She's 22 years old, for heaven's sake! We thought she'd be grown up by now. But no, it's one more crisis after another. And then she calls on us-for emotional support, problem-solving advice. Even money...although we've gotten pretty tough about that. It's like she's still a teen! Why is it so hard for her just to act like an adult?" Around age 18, most young people expect, and are expected to, move out and live on their own-either at college or in an apartment. But more and more often, "boomerang kids" are returning home defeated, leaving you frustrated and at a loss for how to help them. In this breakthrough book, Carl Pickhardt, author of Why Good Kids Act Cruel, exposes the hidden period of development that's causing increasing numbers of post-high school and college age kids to fail on their own and tells parents what you can do to fix it. His new approach to understanding young adulthood proposes that 18?to?23 year-olds have reached not adulthood, but a final stage of adolescence called "trial independence." Boomerang Kids helps parents understand this little-discussed period in your children's lives, so you can help them get through this last and most difficult stage of adolescence and get back out on their own, to become fully, and successfully, independent adults.

This collection of new studies in ethnomethodology addresses sociology's classical questions by developing that strand of ethnomethodological inquiry dealing with membership categorization. This book provides detailed studies of members' use of membership categories across various settings from the O.J. Simpson trial, via TV commercials and news headlines, to school staff and referral meetings. The studies show that category use is occasional, that culture is always internal to action; accordingly sociology's key theoretical problems and substantive areas are re-specified in terms of members' methods of membership categorization. This is the first collection of original, unpublished studies by internationally renowned practitioners of ethnomethodology of members' uses of the descriptive resources of language to describe persons. Co-published with The International Institute for Ethnomethodology and Conversation Analysis.

Fewer Americans were captured or missing during the Vietnam War than in any previous major military conflict in U.S. history. Yet despite their small numbers, American POWs inspired an outpouring of concern that slowly eroded support for the war. Michael J. Allen reveals how wartime loss transformed U.S. politics well before, and long after, the war's official end. Throughout the war's last years and in the decades since, Allen argues, the effort to recover lost warriors was as much a means to establish responsibility for their loss as it was a search for answers about their fate. Though millions of Americans and Vietnamese took part in that effort, POW and MIA families and activists dominated it. Insisting that the war was not over "until the last man comes home," this small, determined group turned the unprecedented accounting effort against those they blamed for their suffering. Allen demonstrates that POW/MIA activism prolonged the hostility between the United States and Vietnam even as the search for the missing became the basis for closer ties between the two countries in the 1990s. Equally important, he explains, POW/MIA families' disdain for the antiwar left and contempt for federal authority fueled the conservative ascendancy after 1968. Mixing political, cultural, and diplomatic history, Until the Last Man Comes Home presents the full and lasting impact of the Vietnam War in ways that are both familiar and surprising.
