One of the greatest challenges we all face in life are the unexpected changes that we experience. We go along in life and suddenly one day everything turns upside down. Our mind is filled with questions: "How am I to explain this?," or better yet, "How do I respond to it?" In Genesis 1, the Bible describes many amazing creative works of God. Among them it describes how He designed four distinct seasons as the integral parts of one year. Each season is distinct. It has its own characteristics, and all of them are important for the success of the whole yearly cycle. The premise of this book is that we can use the natural seasons to understand our own lives. The book starts by looking at the characteristics of each of the four seasons. It follows this by looking at how Israel's religious calendar coincided with the four seasons of the year. Their yearly calendar offers patterns for reflection about where we are in our own process of growth and maturity. The goal of this book is to provide material to help everybody understand their season of life. We're all at different places in our journey, but we can gain helpful personal encouragement by understanding the cycle of the Seasons of the Spirit.

Since it was first published as the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Lent Book in 1991, A Season for the Spirit has accompanied many Christians of different traditions on a forty-day pilgrimage of self-discovery as they seek to become closer to God in prayer. These deeply personal meditations focus on themes of compassion, self-knowledge, wholeness and reconciliation of the conflicting forces within us. The book has become a spiritual classic. Each day’s reading consists of a theological reflection, a prayer to the Holy Spirit to bring us deeper into prayer and a suggestion for further meditation: a passage of Scripture, a quotation from Christian literature or a spiritual exercise.

"Ephraim is a cake not turned" (Hosea 7.8). This is a figurative way of saying ‘not balanced’. The cake is burned on the one side, uncooked on the other; on one side it is overdone, on the other, totally undone. The cake is unfit to be eaten and is thus destined to be cast out. Our God is most balanced. He is love and He is light. Our Lord Jesus is full of grace and full of truth. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of wisdom as well as of revelation. In creation, God "hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with a span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and the hills in a balance" (Is. 40.12). Concerning redemption, it is said that "mercy and truth are met together, righteousness and peace have kissed each other. Truth springeth out of the earth; and righteousness hath looked down from heaven" (Ps. 85.10,11). The new creation, therefore, must be well balanced. In this present volume, Watchman Nee attempts to show from God’s word the perfect equilibrium of divine truth. Human nature, however, is prone to emphasize one side to the exclusion of the other side of truth. This has caused much confusion and many problems among God’s people. It is essential that we know the balance of truth and hold on to both sides so that our Christian life may be well rounded as God has ordained. The contents of the book opens with a treatment of the balance between the gate and the way; continues with a presentation of the balance between the objective and the subjective; includes a discussion on the work inward and the work outward in the Christian life, as well as on the rest given and the rest found as promised by Christ; contemplates the other side of prayer frequently neglected, namely, to watch; and concentrates on the other less emphasized aspect of the trespass-offering, that of restoration. The book then provides a commentary on the contrast between the truly meek and the spiritually poor, and finally concludes with a consideration of the equilibrium that is so necessary between the believer’s faith and the believer’s walk. May all who read this volume be brought into a balanced Christian life.

It was time to plant seeds and a time to grow. A time to reflect, a time to venture forth. It was time when more than half of the nearly 17,000 alumni of Roberts Wesleyan College and Northeastern Seminary earned their degrees. During the years 2000-2014, even as the College and campus expanded as never before, the school held fast to its core principles of faith, transformation and learning with purpose. These first 15 years of the new millennium saw a traditional school transformed with impressive new buildings, major renovations, new degree programs and the coming of age of a second school on campus - Northeastern Seminary. It was - and continues to be - an impressive journey. One we hope founder B.T. Roberts would approve. As you read through this book and enjoy the beautiful images of life on campus, think about your own journey and your own seasons of growth. Listen to the many voices: students, faculty, staff and leadership. And to the living Spirit speaking through them and within you. Your story is part of a larger story and journey of a special place and a remarkable people.
